CRASH TEST DRAMA (ROUND 1) RESULTS

6 Mar by Margareta Moir

On Sunday, 3 March was round 1 of our perennially popular Crash Test Drama event, the first for 2024. 🥳🎉

As usual, it was attended by an enthusiastic crowd of both seasoned and novice writers, actors and directors. In attendance too, was a Cronulla Theatre regular from the past, Pat Brennan who was instrumental in first bringing the concept of 10-minute plays to the Arts Theatre back in 2011.

We had a wildly varied bunch of plays performed that ranged in themes from alien visitants to pandemic planning to a re-gifting crisis.

Despite the many different styles, the quality was such that we had one of the closest audience voting results in years.

There were only 10 votes difference between the top and bottom plays! Talk about consistency!

The results were as follows…

AUDIENCE CHOICE
1st place: ‘What Goes Around’ by Maz Goldrick – 20 votes
2nd place: ‘Writer’s Blockhead’ by Neil Moulang – 18 votes
3rd place: ‘Figment’ by Emily Phipps – 15 votes
(A tremendous result for Emily, given it was her first ever play!)

JUDGE’S CHOICE
Our judge for the day was Christiane Brawley and her picks were:
Best Play: ‘Writer’s Blockhead’ by Neil Moulang
Best Actor: Craig Bulmer
Runner-up Best Actor: Lauren Gaffney

Another highly successful day of original short plays, congratulations to all participants. Big thanks go to the ever-willing Melanie Roffey on the front desk and Suzy Wilds for the food.

Our next Crash Test Drama event will be held on Sunday, 26 May.

We are now accepting scripts for that event – be quick, we already have a submission!
